What an excellent point, Kate, which many of us forget, especially "in the heat of the moment." I experienced this recently. This was not a presentation, but rather towards the conclusion of an important two day strategic planning meeting. I was one of about 25 participants. I could sense towards the end that the leader would call on me for some reflections, and had shaped a response. While the "opening" was provided by the leader's "invitation," I had not thought through a close, as I was more focused on the quality and impact of my thoughts. As result I could sense the missed opportunity for a crisp finish. This will not happen again.

Thanks for your comment. You are so right about knowing what to expect as an antidote to stage fright. I completely agree with arriving early and getting to know the look, feel, and sound of a place. Over time, you know more of what to expect and how to handle most venues, but there are always quirks and knowing you can handle those helps your confidence too.
